Toad Lickers Film Club is teaming up with Hospitable Environment's The People's Picturehouse to bring our folk film club to Newhaven! As part of our 'FOKLORE' exhibition at Marine Workshops this spring.
We'll be bringing back one of our earliest screening, which we loved so much: Arcadia (2017)
Come with us on a journey through Britain's shifting — and contradictory — relationship to the land, is BAFTA-winner Paul Wright's visual masterpiece which uses 100 years of archival footage in a sensory, visceral journey through the contrasting seasons, taking in folk carnivals and fetes, masked parades, water divining and harvesting.
Set to a grand, expressive new score from Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) alongside folk music from the likes of Anne Briggs, Wright's captivating film essay captures the beauty and brutality, and the magic and madness of rural Britain.
The screening will be preceded by a talk from Toad Lickers Collective on: 'Puritanical Ghosts & the False Idyl of Cottage-core'. Plus refreshments from Hospitable Environment.
Doors: 6.30pm
Talk: 7pm
Film: 7.45pm
