Driving on the beach

Kite flyers
Kite flyers are asked to exercise extreme caution when flying large kites as these are capable of causing serious injury when unexpectedly coming down. Kite lines have also been known to cause severe friction burns to other beach users.
Public rescue equipment
Lifebelts and ropes are kept in red boxes at regular intervals along the top of the beach from Splash Point in the east to Newhaven Harbour in the west. These items are only for use in an emergency. It is an offence to interfere with any public rescue equipment without reasonable excuse and is punishable with a fine of up to £500. Lewes District Council replaces a large number of lifebelts each year because of vandalism or theft. Remember, it may be you or your family that needs the services of that equipment in an emergency.
Seaford Lifeguards
Seaford Lifeguards patrol the beach and inshore waters at weekends and public holidays from May to September (inclusive), usually between 10am and 6pm. The lifeguards operate from a control room which is situated above Seaford Rugby Club at the Salts Recreation Ground and can be contacted by calling: 01323 895554 during their operational hours. The lifeguards also have a small base of operations just to the east of the Martello Tower. This is manned when sufficient staff are available for advice and minor first aid. Seaford Lifeguards are all volunteers and give many hours to protecting the people who use the beach and inshore waters.
