Zak is a brilliant Anglo concertina player in the unique South African style. He's entertaining, delightful & informative. He features on the influential 'Anglo International' double CD compilation of the best players in the world. Zak was born in 1933 in Cape Town and first played guitar and mouth organ. He started playing concertina at the age of 14. He learned tunes from other players off 78 rpm records and progressed from playing at parties to playing with bigger bands, and eventually graduated to concerts and radio broadcasts. He also recorded several 78 rpm records and 33 rpm LPs.
Zak will give us two forty-five minutes sets and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience performing a song or tune if they wish.
Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
We have a loyalty card. Six visits earn you £5 off an evening when admission is £5 or more. It's £6 tonight.
