Not only is Simon beyond doubt this country's finest mandolin player, he is a brilliant fiddle player, guitarist, composer & wit. His dazzling technical skills grace all the music he plays. He has a delicious sense of humour & great teaching ability. Simon plays fiddle in a wide range of styles.
The workshop will concentrate on fiddle tunes from North America: Old Time, Appalachian, with a couple of French & French Canadian for good measure. There'll be an introduction to improvisation and - with some slow airs - discussion of tone production.Music & audio files will be provided in advance.

11.00 Review of important aspects of technique & 'warm-up' with some of the easier tunes.
12.30 Lunch
13.30 Introduction to basic tools for improvisation. Maintaining a strong, even tone.
15.00 Tea/coffee break
15.15 Review of the tunes we've played & a chance for questions.
16.45 Finish
