New to Artwave, Nic Acaster will be presenting a new body of work at her studio to include sculptures, working drawings and postcards.
Nic's practice focuses on repurposing old boats into art. Following a family tradition of boat building this craftmanship runs through and directs her as an artist.
Currently working with a Hastings and Rye fishing boat called ''Rosie Haze RX320'' she repurposes the wooden planking, copper nails, bronze and oak ribs into relief Sculptures of sea birds. Gathering research material through sketching and photographing the local birdlife that rest on the mooring posts and surrounding landscape, including Herring gulls, Oystercatchers and Cormorants.
With an emphasis on the environment and climate change, Nic's work aims to promote the repurposing of 2nd or 3rd use materials, whilst offering an alternative view into the heart of heritage, craft and sustainability.
This exhibition is a rare opportunity to view a working studio, to engage with and buy art from the artist directly. Weather permitting, some art works will be displayed outside to allow the audience to view at a safe Covid distance.
Please be mindful when visiting and parking your car or bike that the entrance track is used by farm machinery.
