Join pianist Melvyn Tan and multi award-winning actor Vanessa Redgrave, for an evening of music and word inspired by sun-baked Andalucía.
Death, desire, ancient folklore, Catholicism, flamenco, fiesta and bullfight are all here in vivid rhythm, colour and passionate virtuosity, with music by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Enrique Granados and Isaac Albéniz. The transporting music is interwoven with excerpts from poems and novels by Spain's great symbolist Federico García Lorca, the modernist poet Antonio Machado and the writer Laurie Lee who walked across the vast country.
Bloomsbury is here too with letters and diary entries by Virginia Woolf who travelled by train and donkey to visit writer Gerald Brenan in the Andalucían hills, and who wrote movingly about the loss of her nephew Julian Bell, killed whilst driving ambulances in the Spanish Civil War.
