Welcome to the ceramics of Meg Griffiths (given Covid-19 the exhibition will be on the pavement outside) - plus this year in a pop-up van outside - the launch exhibition of the 'Blooming Bloomsbury Collective'.
My workshop is a garden shed, the pots both wheel-thrown and handbuilt. For indoor pottery I use a smooth while stoneware clay; a strong groggy clay for garden ware, with slips and oxides applied before the bisque firing. Using mostly matt glazes, the firing is then to 1230C rendering the work frostproof. The pots are at least semi-functional, many designed to contain plants or foliage.
This year the newly-formed 'Blooming Bloomsbury Collective' will be exhibiting in a van outside the house. We are a group of local women who met as guides at Charleston Farmhouse, sadly due to Covid currently closed. Each of us is a 'maker' with a shared interest in the art, craft and ethos of Bloomsbury. The friendship and collaboration of that group has inspired us to share ideas, offer mutual support, risk experimentation. The work for this exhibition includes plant-dyed yarns, textiles, lampworked beads, ceramics, drawing, painting and prints.
