I look forward to welcoming you to quietly browse copious sketchbooks, sift through works on paper and examine an array of larger wood panels on display. I will also be showing videos of my process and inspiration. My work primarily focuses on abstract landscape and I really enjoy talking about painting and processes, so feel free to chat.
I originally studied photography at art school and turned to painting much later in life. I’m particularly inspired by the vibration, rhythms and musicality inherent in nature. Much of my source material is drawn from the South Downs landscape where I walk every day. This is reflected in my daily sketches. For larger work, I paint almost exclusively on wood panels using found materials such as eggshells, strips of discarded textiles or canvas, which I mix with acrylics and oils to create layers for stripping back to reveal hidden qualities – as many times as is necessary to produce a final painting.
