Jim (www.jim-murray.co.uk) started playing in the early 60s around Tyneside, both solo and with brother Phil and brothers Mick and Kevin Doonan in what became, according to Wiki, "Hedgehog Pie ... a loose collection of folk musicians in Newcastle-upon-Tyne".
Jim continued on the London Folk scene from the late 60s, and plays guitar and sings songs from Tyneside and ones he's written in his local style. The songs are often humorous, always inventive and ingenious, often with a social point to make. He's joined by The Too Good to Hurry Band (TGTH), who are Alex Szyszkowski - melodeon and concertina, Lis Stewart - concertina, Dave Wooldridge - fiddle, and Chris Dyer (nyckelharpa, fiddle).
Jim & The Too Good To Hurry Band will give us two 45-minute spots and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience performing a song or tune if they wish.
Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
We have a loyalty card. Six visits earn you £5 off an evening when admission is £5 or more. It's £10 tonight.
