The Sussex Women Supper Club. Chapter Three: Sarah Walton
Join us for the third chapter of The Sussex Women Supper Club, an occasional series of events celebrating the lives of remarkable women and non-binary people who have lived and worked in Sussex.
Our guest this evening is Sarah Walton, an artist working in ceramic, oak, lead and cast iron.
Come and hear from Sarah how she first arrived at the ruined Keepers Cottage near Alciston as a child, and how she went on, years later, to establish her pottery studio there. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Sarah has gathered recognition for her salt-glazed stoneware, developing from widely collected tableware through to large, abstract sculptural forms combining elements of ceramic, oak, lead and cast iron. More recently, and following the decommissioning of her salt kiln, Sarah's focus has shifted to smaller works inspired by the local landscape that she has come to know so well over many decades.
This evening will be a more intimate SWSC: a conversation with and about a brilliant Sussex Woman in a smaller setting, with a chance to meet, eat and talk together. Based in the Art Room at Hillcrest, Sarah will be in conversation with Lizzie Lower, following which you are warmly invited to ask questions and join the story.
