About

We have a line-up of unique and exceptional local talent for our themed arts and story cabaret exploring the enigmatic Welsh word Hiraeth: the deep longing for home, real or imagined. This is a resonant and pertinent theme right now, both domestically, globally and personally and we have tried to select stories and artists that represent a range of different perspectives.

A live lit cabaret with a line up of award winning and emerging writers: Siobhan Curham, who will be reading an excerpt from her novel 'Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow'; writer Tony Leonard with a memoir from the 80s set in a Welsh mining town; Michelle Porter with a dark little tale about enclosures, featuring two kids and a fish tank; writer Matt Freidson (Best New American Voices) reading 'At Calais' a moving tale illuminating the struggles of a young Syrian refugee to find food, shelter, friendship (and decent wifi): writer, artist and activist Alinah Azadeh reading an autobiographical tale of the impact of her mother's longing for her home, Iran, and its impact on her own life as a second generation British-Iranian and writer Tara Gould whose text based art installation '8 Journeys Home' will be exhibited in the ancient vestry at Westgate.

We will also have live music and a low cost bar.

£11 on the door.
