Heritage Open Days is an annual celebration of history and culture across the country, giving visitors free access to usually hidden places and new experiences. For the first time, Visit Lewes has put together a programme of Heritage Open Days across our wonderful coast and countryside, offering a new twist on some familiar locations, and a chance to explore the more obscure. You can pick up a leaflet from our Tourist Information centres, or browse venues on the link below.
We take you from a venerable church, a captivating local museum, and a working pottery with a surprising history in Newhaven, across the fascinating landscape of Tide Mills, and introduce you to the lesser known side of Seaford’s history, via an atmospheric medieval undercroft. Continue off the beaten track to the intriguing Downland church at Litlington, soak up the Elizabethan magnificence of Glynde Place, and journey to the very centre of Sussex, marked by Chailey’s Grade ii listed smock mill and museum.
Several of our venues are also participating in the Artwave festival, and will be hosting exhibitions of local work by artists and makers.
We also encourage you to enjoy Heritage Open Days within Lewes Town itself, which are organised by the Friends of Lewes. You can find more information on the Heritage Open Days website, or pick up the leaflet from our Tourist Information Centres.
Enjoy your visit!
