This is a version of the classic story written by author and director, David Pratt, and first performed in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire, in December 2006. It has been updated to be set in East Sussex.
This pantomime tells the tale of Richard Whittingham, the son of a miller, who, having only inherited a cat on his father's retirement, sets out for London to seek his fortune. He finds employment there but things do not go well for him. He is accused of stealing from his employer and is banished from London. He decides to join a ship and leave England to seek better luck elsewhere. The ship takes him to far-off Zanzibar, where he and his cat, Tom, have to do battle with a rat army which has infested the city.
Can Dick and Tom defeat the rats and save the city? Will all be good in the end?
