In Ibsen's classic, Nora is very happily married to the upright and proper Helmer and everything in her life looks rosy now that her husband has been made manager of the local bank. But suddenly her world starts to wobble on its axis and seems likely to collapse around her when she is threatened with blackmail for an earlier well meaning but foolish indiscretion.
The scales fall from her eyes as she comes to realise that, in the society in which she felt so comfortable, women are only very second-class citizens. George Bernard Shaw wrote of A Doll's House: 'When Nora slams the front door shut behind her, that sound reverberated throughout the whole world.'. The play premiered in 1879 and the effect it had on a very conservative audience was explosive.
Translated and directed by David Parton, it features performances from Emily Feist, Darren Heather, Sue Williams. David Hallett, Alan Lade and Constance Owen.
The show opens on Friday 6 September 2024 and runs through to the following Saturday 14 September with matinées only on Saturday 7 & Saturday 14 September. Evening performances commence at 7.45pm and the matinées will start at 2.30pm.
